Rats are a perennial problem on any allotment site. There are some simple things you can do to discourage them:
1. Look after your compost bin. Turn the contents twice a year and never put in meat, dairy, bones or cooked foods.
2. Harvest ripe fruit and vegetables promptly and do not leave discarded fruit and vegetables on the ground.
3. Keep your plot tidy and do not let it become overgrown or allow rubbish to build up.
4. Keep your shed secure and do not allow access to rats and mice.
The Council has provided the Association with a number of rat traps and these are only set up on individual plots at the plotholder’s request. Please contact a committee member for further information.
